I use an adjustable shoulder strap i got with my laptop bag but never used,so i drilled a hole in the spade handle & top of the digger part, attached it with a keyring at each end & away i go,it`s excellent & leaves me with both hands free.

I have a snap hook on my belt and a loop of thin rope on my spade.

Snap loop into hook... here boy... follow me wherever I go... hands free spade ... beep beep... spade is always there at hand and behind me but easy to use without disconnecting it from snap hook ...  dig ... leave go and like a good spade it just follows me without having to be told and does not get in my way and when I stand up ... like a good spade should do ... it follows me and does not get in my way at any time..

Spade.. spade.. where are you ?   oops .. silly me .. my spade is sleeping in the boot of my car.

Before I was unable to detect any more I used to carry my shovel on my shoulder.

I soon learned from a mate that used to accompany me that the use of a 30 sq yard of land was a handy lot to detect in and it became a norm with me, it was more thorough than trying to walk in a straight line, you might say "What has that to do with carrying a shovel", the answer is, I never noticed the weight at the time, too interested in what was to come..

I used to detect eight hours at a time and no sweat, my lunch on my back an a flask too, oh !! if only i could do that now?. Happy days.

Charles you want to get a quad and adapt it. Sat Nav, kettle, microwave, rear view camera, all mod cons and you will be going all day.
