Hi all. Just wanted to say thankyou so much for the kind response and great ideas that have managed to splash across the screen. I find it amazing how a small ( what i thought anyway) community can have such a lot of ideas and friendly advice. I think im actually going to probably go for the garrett 150 and a little old pi point ( cadzy showed me the pin and i thought it was amazing!!) So now i am looking into the history of blaenavon and so far i have heard of only little activity from medievil but quite a bit fom the bronze age. I am hoping that once i get my detector, i will be going to caerphilly with my brother so this way its more land to try and cover. Anyway thanks to all that have given me a warm hello and can honestly say it feels like i can put my feet up here.

Welcome to the site Gareth - as the boys have already mentioned we all have to start somewhere and a basic entry machine is not a bad idea - you can always sell it on once the Bug Bites You! And believe you me, once you have unearthed that first old coin or artefact there's no going back. The key is patience - its all out, there you just need to walk over it!

I am sure you already realise, but feel free to ask questions and for tips off the guys to your hearts content. They are a friendly bunch.
