im selling my father inlaws car as sadly he is loosing his sight and is unable to drive anymore

Thanks Mike, i know these cars well having just sold one. I presume this is the 90hp version or could be the 105hp ?
17k + when new as you say & this one being the SE would be 18k so for the money you are asking it`s a great buy although the mileage is a little on the high side, but with F/S/H it makes little difference. They are a superb motor & the newish engine (1.6 diesel) is fantastic, probably the best if you`re looking for economy rather than performance like the GTI`s.
Anyone looking for a car that will rarely if ever let you down can`t go wrong with a well looked after used Golf !

There was a stop-gap 110hp version but what the Golf really needed was a smaller capacity diesel & that's what it has in the shape of VW's 90hp & 105hp 1.6 TDI. Taking nothing away from the 110hp version,it`s still a great car but VW needed something more permanent & used the 110hp Golf as a stop-gap until they could develop a new product.  Wink
