Title: Thanks to the Horsey Mole!
Post by: Neil on December 11, 2011, 03:28:03 PM
Now we have all heard the story of Mr Mole kicking up finds from deep underground and before yesterday I had only found I think a pewter button in a mole hill.

In the afternoon I headed into the field on the right of the "Roman Field" to find numerous mole hills that hadn't been detected over. The first one I happened upon had a piece of clay pipe stem lieing on the top so I started detecting them. At this point there was only Meatslicer and I in this field and it was fast approaching sunset.

After a few mole hills I hit a button and a few later a small piece of lead. The best was one of the last ones where I retrieved a rugby ball shaped coin that I later showed to Rob and Mark.

I finally got round to cleaning it a little bit this afternoon and its a Roman coin. No idea on who it is and the back is in terrible condition, but thank you Mr Mole!

Other finds from the day including my Medi buckle, an inscribed copper plate and a lovely pewter childrens milk jug. I didn't find a lot, but a truly great day out!

Neil
