I think you are wasting your time Rob having sensible discussion on serious subjects on this forum by the look of the replies to your post  above I for one will always stand up for my beloved hobby and am always prepared to view my opinion, which some people do not like. There are many good aspects to this hobby and have made to good friend since i have been detecting, but when its gone its gone

hmmmmmm i think you're over egging the pudding a bit  .........its hardly rampant all over the country, like chef has mentioned before, there are more bellringers than detectorists ( perhaps the campanologists are discussing phantom night bell ringers as we speak ). Out of all the detectorists i know only one has openly admitted they have done it, and they have since sold up and no longer detects. Also when you compare crime against crime , it s hardly up there with house breaking, gun crime , murder etc...

Geoff I djavascript:void(0);on't know wether you on a wind up ,or have you joined the ant-detecting brigade..I don't need to pick on any remark that rubbishes this hobby ....There is plenty recently and does not a bit of good for this hobby when so called detectorists are making smart arse remarks about this serious subject and the replies on this post show that is happening .Slagging of ideas for getting rid of criminals out of this hobby shows a lowering of expectation and it is repeated continually by the same critics..Maybe the real enemy within Geoff...The hinting by certain individuals that majority of detectorists are not law abiding is a load of nonsense..But if you throw enough mud -some sticks

hmm... the initial post was a sweeping generalisation without specifics to allude to in a debate. Hence i presume a reluctance to engage in any debate on the subject matter.

With respect to the comment where you make  a personal offensive jibe to all members of the DW  forum, who you refer to as "smart arse" is not welcome and should be retracted. Everyone should be treated with respect, regardless.

As for the issue re dealing with criminals and ideas put forward ... the only people who can change legislation are the lawmakers and any ideas put forward on the forum, should really be put to the elected members for consideration as part of the consultative process to dealing with the issue.

Sorry Alan if I offended anybody and certainly would not offend you ...From today I withdraw my membership and thank everybody for the good time I have had...But there does come a time when to make you to make a stand..
