Title: Seal matrix

Got this one out today,quite pleased with it as its only the second one I've found.
Any ideas on date?

Nice find , it looks a bit like a stylised sun , but I can't see what is in the centre

Well done Benny, nice seal. have you tried pressing it into some blue tack.
It looks like an insect of some sort.

How big is it benny?

I'm wondering if it's a button rather than a matrix, unless it's obviously too large

I have to agree with Peter, it looks like a classic 17th century button to me. Sorry :-[

Yeah,I agree its definately a button,just looked in Gordon Bailey's book"Buttons and fasteners".
Bit older than whats been suggested though as its described as a 14th century bronze button in the form of four petals.
So not a matrix but I'm still quite pleased as I've never found a button this early.
