Title: Saxon Penny
Post by: BottyBurp (Kris) on February 19, 2009, 06:11:21 PM
Can you help with an ID on this penny please?

Found today in pasture, I'm not sure why it would have the two holes in it and the reverse has a gold "Tint" to it!

Thanks in advance

BB

the gold glint is tarnishing which is fairly common on silver strangely it yellows as well as the usual black oxidisation.lovely coin there.

Very nice BB. Maybe has been gilded to make a brooch of some sort - if so it is Treasure Act.

That's definately more than just a coin Botty, maybe the holes were to mount it on to something, certainly looks like guilding,i think Peter's right, lovely find that, :) well found

hi botty-burp. greatcoin, would agree that it is edward the confessor  radiate type spink number 1173, again the holes would suggest it was mounted on a bracelet, like the old silver 3pences, so i would go back and look for the rest if was  you. but what a great coin anyway, thanks for the look mick
