I had a few good hours today 3 hammereds and 2 brooches, one of them looks a little Saxon to me? but what do I know about brooches, any help chef would be great...
The long cross penny is interesting its debased so I think its a forgery, the coin just don't look right, the mint mark look to be on the reverse, also I cant seem to make out any of the legend, il get a better pic later.
One last thing if I find another lizzy hammered im going to throw it back, they are starting to get a little like roman grots Grin

Cheers all...............a better shot of the penny if anyone wants a shot to id, I think its a continental copy, or just a home made fake, if you look at 11oclcok on the reverse you will see a cross mint mark?

A great day indeed!

Please can you post a pic of the back of the top item?

The hammered is a Continental sterling imitation of William of Namur and dates to the late 1340s or early 1350s. Debased as you say and therefore brittle.

The full reverse reading would be NAM VRC ENS IS+.

It's number 363 or 364 in the Mayhew book 'Sterling Imitations of Edwardian Type'

Cheers Pete I will take note of that great id Wink

The item cleaned, it don't seem as if any thing has snapped off, maybe just the pin?

Cheers

Thanks for the extra pics.

Looks to be a mount rather than a brooch?

Looks like a strap end or a horse bridle fitting. The two studs would point to a fitting. Could still be saxon though, its very stylized and animalistic.
