Title: *Official Detecting Wales Rally* Sign up thread for Gilestone.
Post by: Tafflaff (Rob) on August 23, 2015, 07:01:40 PM
We're returning to Gileston!

Itss  80% cut bailed and as such our next rally will be held in this fantastic location.

We have had loads of hammered coins from Gileston as well as there being a Roman 'Hot Spot' there. We have also come away with 2 lots of treasure (Melonhead's ring and Bob's silver bodkin)

Will Gileston produce the goods once again ? Well the only way to find out is sign up and attend :)

The meeting time will be 9.00am and the rally will start at 9.30 am. The rally will finish at 5.00pm.

This will be a DetectingWales.com members only rally and I'm afraid everyone attending must be over 16 years of age. Usual terms and conditions apply. Everyone who attends does so at their own risk and we recommended that everyone has civil liability insurance. If you are a member of a club you will probably already have this. Please check.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

The location of the rally will be sent by private message to everyone who has signed up the day before the rally.

Entry is  £7 per person, pay on the day.

H.H

Looking forward to this. I haven't been out with the detector in ages!

An update on the silver bodkin:
British Museum have decided they want it. They have valued it at £40 because of the damage.
They said if it had been in better condition then it would have been in the hundreds.
My grandson Joe (the one who found it) is ok with the valuation and wants to split it between himself and the farmer which
is a good attitude to have :)
Now we just wait I suppose until they send a cheque?
Bob

Out of interest, what does it mean on the rally list when 'Tafflaff (Rob)' is next to your name?  Mine has this and so does someone else's name but I'm confused as to why or whether it means I'm supposed to do something????

Thanks....

Title: Re: *Official Detecting Wales Rally* Sign up thread for Gilestone.
Post by: Val Beechey on August 25, 2015, 03:44:25 PM
Yes, you are s'posed to click the box that says 'Sign Up'  then it's automatic.  If you simply ask for Rob to do it that's how it shows up.

p.s. don't do it now. Remember for next time.

p.p.s.  Theres a other box by  your name on the sign up list that says  'Cancel Signup'  click this if you can't go.

Thank you Val! And apologies to Tafflaff for having to do it for me.

What a dingo I am...now that you've explained it, I think I've seen that exact same conversation on a previous rally thread....

I managed to work the sign-up process before, so not sure why I missed it this time!

Thanks again...

Looking forward to this rally - I found (on one of the far fields) my only Deus hammered :)

Is the really good field available this year? Will they all be disked - I know there was a part of the field by the sea that was a bit heavy going, but I was still glad to be there.

I've only been there once - there have been a few rallies there and they always seem to turn up some interesting stuff - although what I mean by the 'good' field wasn't available last time, so I can't tell you what it is like :)

We annually have a rally there and always end up with decent finds. We wouldn't go back otherwise.

As always its impossible to know what will come up - that's the joy of detecting.

Cheers
Neil

Hi

Is this the farm we attended last year? The only reason I'm asking is that the postcode is different, although it seems to be the same location on the map you provided - I just didn't want to turn up on the neighbouring farm and look a complete idiot (wife reckons I don't need any help doing that anyway!)  ;D

Cheers

Tony
