Title: Deus control box buttons fix
Post by: Myke on March 06, 2017, 05:51:11 PM
Had issues with rubbish buttons from day 1, 5 months later and + button begins to stick....my fingers are a bit big and pressing buttons, especially when in a cover was a real task.
Seems guarantee doesn't cover the buttons if used too much !!!!

I have used them a lot as experimented with copious settings, think I was using thumb nail a bit!

And it's £50 for new front case from Regtons...who are super helpful BTW and can turn it around in 5 days !!!!

Found some small (9mm) transparent door slam protectors, half sphere and self adhesive from wilkinsons (40 in pack)

They fit snug on buttons and now pressing is a joy as they are well proud of casing...even in waterproof case it's a breeze.....

Highly recommended, unit changes like a rolls Royce now.

Nigel at Regtons was very helpful..they do a visual check on unit to determine if it's a fault or wear and tear...after 5 months of ownership mine certainly had signs of use, mainly because it's so hard to press buttons cleanly. When mobile phone buttons on £20 phones seem to last for decades I think XP need to re think their design and make the unit waterproof too.

I have to agree with you Myke. The depressed buttons are a pain. With I first had mine it drove me bonkers. In the end, much against my better judgement, I had to cut my thumb nail down to the skin so it would fit into the depression.
I've always thought it was, maybe, a bad design fault. Why depressed ?

Just heard from Niger at Regions. ..He says lots of Deus  owners have this problem...yanks have been using blimps on there buttons for  years....sent XP an e mail asking why my 10 yr old phone that cost £20 has perfect buttons but the 5 month old £1000 Deus has rubbish ones...

Modern technology at work again Chris. Intuitive keyboards, another bad idea.

Myke I had a £15 Nokia phone from Tesco, it was 12 years old and in perfect condition when I swopped it for a smart phone. Now I see they're resurrecting them, ha !

Yes...I meant Nigel at Regtons lol....my fat fingers again !!!
Had reply from XP in France, they say the keypad should not wear out in 6 months and will arrange for a new one under guarantee....once Nigel gets to check it out, fair enough...meanwhile the blimps I've stuck on have corrected the issue and I'm happy again.. XP wouldn't admit it's a design fault nor comment on why the control box is not waterproofed properly.

sorry to join your site with a moan. I have had the same problems with my RC unit and am in the process of sending a letter to XP. There is a warranty of 5 years on this item, and mine has 3 yrs to run.
I rang Craig last year to get advice and he said it was likely to be 'wear and tear' , which I vehemently denied. I kept on using it until February 2017 when the minus button finally gave up.
I sent it off to Regtons and they replaced the facia and I was charged £52.46 & my postage/Insurance was £7.
It seems that XP are hiding behind 'wear & tear' to avoid honouring the warranty.
Nigel suggests sending a letter, which I  will do and will keep you posted.
I have been fastidious with the care of this unit as I have with all my gear and in the last year I have hardly used it due to hip problems. >:(

The unit packed in again! I sent Control box to Regtons along with the reply e mail I  had from XP saying the pad "Shouldn't break after 6 months"
Regtons repaired it free as a "One off gesture" and had unit back to me 1 day later.
What great service from Nigel and team...ive now attached blimps to depressed buttons and secured it in a waterproof cover. seriously thinking of going back to Minelab !
