Title: DetectingWales.com Rally in Llansannor near Cowbrige Feb 15th 2009
Post by: proconsul on February 01, 2009, 08:54:58 PM
Altinkum has kindly taken on the onerous task of organising a rally for us. This will take place in Llansannor near Cowbrige on Sunday 15th February 2009. There will be one very large weathered-down ploughed field near an old church and some pasture fields. The area has a reputation for bronze age and roman finds.

This will be a DetectingWales.com members-only rally. The cost will be £5 per head.

Meeting place and time will be announced in a few days.

Geoff

Well done Altinkum - very good of you to arrange this - its what the site needed to make it evolve. Hopefully it will be the first of many Rallys acquired by various members.

I will add it to the Press Release that is scheduled to go out on Monday to various publications with the caveat that its for existing members only this time!

Great area for a Rally. Anyone ordering the new or old merchandise that will be advertised this week can collect at the Rally if they want to save the P&P.

We have decided on a meeting time of 9am with the actual rally start time approximately half an hour after this. To ensure that only members of DetectingWales.com attend this rally we will be sending out the location of the meeting place by private message via this website.  To facilitate this we need everyone who intends coming to the rally to sign up using the link at the end of this post.

Just so everyone knows what they’re letting themselves in for, I’m afraid we won’t be able to provide the same kind of facilities as a large open rally. In other words you won’t find portable toilets, burger vans or trade stands at our rally. Please bring any sandwiches and drinks that you will require with you.

Whilst we will do our best to ensure the safety and security of everyone who attends the rally, please be aware that everyone who attends does so at their own risk. Everyone who attends will also be responsible for ensuring that they have suitable civil liability insurance. If you are a member of a club that is affiliated to the National Council for Metal Detecting you will probably already have this cover. Please check.

If you intend to come to the DetectingWales.com Rally on Sunday 15th February 2009 PLEASE LET US KNOW AT THE LINK BELOW. If your name isn’t on the list you won’t be coming!

Sorry Millsy - we have had loads of these requests, he will need to register on the site, as with everyone else I am afraid.

If he hasn't got a computer at home, just tell him to go to any library - they all provide free internet access.

cheers

Unfortunately Phil there are several problems with insurance, personal liability and U16 Risk Assessments with minors.

In todays society you have to take these things into account - its a shame but can't be helped.

The organised Rallys we all go to will all have arranged personal indemnity and liability cover for several million pounds - thats just not feasible for us, and hence why everyone needs their own insurance. Might sound extreme but accidents do happen, and I know of two individual cases where event organisers have been sued for what are basically minor accidents. One of them bizzarely was at a charity baseball event on Ely Racecourse- cost someone I know their livelihood!

Sorry its society to blame, not DetectingWales I'm afraid

Hi Neil

Thanks for explaining
Its a mad world we live init

I understand totally

Rob dont let this put you and your son off Detecting or Joining a club.
as Neil said all other orginised rallys have the insurance,s to cover U16 and im sure in time if Detectingwales rallies take off its something the admin could look into.

All the best Phil Jones
