More chance of medieval, but there is an iron age/Roman settlement in the area and I have had both Celtic and Roman on the farm.

Ooohhhh  that buckle looks a bit interesting. Needs some one with a bit more knowledge than me for an opinion though.

On the way home !!  does that mean you didn't do much good earlier.

Val

I think the buckle is circa 13th - 14th C  Single looped molded Crowned head. Like this below

Lovely buckle ,never seen one with a face on before.

Its cleverly made, from all angles it looks like a face, from the side view the top of the crown acts as the nose, so there's a face from each angle, it would be interesting to see a photo with the top of the crown pointing at the camera ;)

thank you everyone in over thirty years of detecting i've never found that sort of buckle.yes val after the buckle nothing else showed and there was one of my local permissions just having the peas taken off,so on the way home i had a couple of hours.

Well done Nonker. As soon as I saw the pic I guessed it was something a bit special. 1200 to 1300 can't beat that.

If it shows a face from all angles does it class as Zoomorphic ?? or is it  just animal characters.

Worth going to the rally for I'd say. Even if you didn't find anything else.

thanks val your'e right it's a very nice bit of history that's been delivered to me there.that land felt a bit special up on the ridge, with the right conditions that could be a special field i think it's given us just a tickle of whats up there.
