Title: Two short trips Post by: celticspikey on August 27, 2014, 02:07:55 PM I managed a couple of trips last 2 days for a few hours on each day. Here is a selection of finds…minus the lead, yesterday I was in a medieval stubble field which was hard going on the arm, so I decided to clamber through a hedge in to the next field which is owned by a different farmer. This field had been harrowed and was seeded so it was much easier to swing the old CTX, there is a small roman site here and produces 4th century coins and has in the past when it was ploughed produced quite a few brooches not in the best of condition thou. Any way it turned out to be a good move as a couple of grots came up and 2 early brooches broken, shortly after the second brooch I had a signal I nearly never dug due to its very low tone and on the far left of the screen any way as you can see it turned out to be a gold ring which incidentally whilst it was in the clod of soil looked as if I had a medieval ring :o, alas it was not to be and turned out to be a 22ct dated 1834-35 it only weighs 1 gram, hence the iffy signal it produced. Hope you enjoy the pictures. Oh by the way the bottom left group shot photo looks to be the blade of an axe...one day I will bang a complete one out ;) ;)

Title: Re: Two short trips Post by: celticspikey on August 28, 2014, 07:35:55 PM All these great finds and the seasons still young ;) Cheers Dale, as you know it's a delicate balance deciding what farms and fields to search depending on crops, stubble and whether there seeded, although I'm pretty lucky as my best fields the farmers allow me to carry on searching, I just heard my favourite medieval field ( Field of dreams) is to be left in stubble until spring :o as I hate searching stubble it will give it chance to rot down over winter. ;)Nice one Paul. Good news then Paul, I bet it was like music to your ears ;D iv had that for a couple of years now on a few fields, I made lots of visits over Christmas and cleared a lot of the finds, there due a good deep plough now, this cultivating is not good year after year (find wise :D) most of the time they just scratch the surface.
