Title: Re: roman day today!! Post by: Chef Geoff on February 19, 2015, 09:25:31 PM Well done G looks like a good site with a wide date range, the brooch is a T brooch from around 100-140AD not sure on the Sestertius but could well be contemporary with the brooch ;)

Title: Re: roman day today!! Post by: probono on February 20, 2015, 12:13:26 AM I could go and identify most of the romans (I've already done that for you hammerd,.....) but in the top picture I see a Constantine (Genio Pop Romano reverse), probably a Crispus (Beati Tranquilitatis reverse, London mint) and a Tetricus II billon ant. The Sestertius is probably Marcus Aurelius, so sort of contemporary with the brooch, but given the wear, I'd suggest it was dropped quite a bit later.

Title: Re: roman day today!! Post by: probono on February 20, 2015, 09:29:11 AM Ok, now you've shown a better picture of the sestertius, it's actually Antoninus Pius (138-161) - so yes, contemporary with the brooch, but again the wear comment applies.
I was talking about your top pictures (although I think the reverses are the ones in the 3rd picture). On the second picture you have a couple of billon Ants (top left, and bottom right) and what could be a coin of Valens too. The others are too cruddy / worn to make out. Title: Re: roman day today!!
