Laser hawkeye

laserlady:
Hi Hawkeye owners.
Please could someone give me some advice.
I have just started using a Hawkeye and haven't found much apart from a couple of old pennies (George 111) and foil and ring pull rubbish.
I'm not finding it easy to pinpoint the objects before I start digging. So my holes are quite big.
The Garrett I was using has a display which shows exactly where the object is but the Hawkeye hasn't. It just makes this dreadful noise.
Do you get used to the sound eventually and can your ear become attuned to the sound so you can determine more accurately where to start digging?
Has anyone got any tips?
Thanks a lot. Laserlady

Does the Hawkeye have a pinpoint button? I know it has an all-metal button.

As to locating a target, in motion discrim mode just move coil side to side, slowly, and imagine the centre
where the sound is loudest.

Then turn 90 degrees to the 'imaginary' centre and repeat process.

The centre will be where the centre of where the two sweeps meet.

Just move coil slowly and listen for when it is loudest. Turning 90 degrees and getting another good audio
and display reading will give you an idea of whether it is iron and/or a good target.

The machine gives an idea of depth so don't dig deep to start with if it displays a shallow target!

If traget is not in the spoil, put a pinpointer in the hole to confirm location so that you are not extending the
hole unnecessarily.

A pinpointer is an invaluable piece of kit. The Garrett probe is the best but pricey.

Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot for your tips. Can't wait to try them out. Thanks again. LL

If you want we can meet up and go through the controls together, easy enough.
Good machine, will not be without mine.

Happy hunting.
