Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to get one of my old finds tested to see if it is welsh gold or not?

I had found this on one of my permissions not far from the mine and I know 1904 was their best production year and also I think it is the right colour but the back half of the locket is gone and there are no hallmarks visible on the front half

According to what I've read Welsh gold can only be identified by it's isotopic structure. Any jeweller can confirm it's gold but not where it came from.
Nice find. Gold is gold anytime Wink

The colour on the photograph indicates that the locket was probably made from rose gold;gold with copper added to give the pleasing reddish colour which was very popular in late Victorian/Edwardian jewellery.
Welsh gold is the usual gold colour-pure gold is 'gold' in colour wherever it comes from. It's a misconception that Welsh gold is rose in colour.Makers of so called 'Welsh Gold' jewellery add only a tiny amount of Welsh gold to each piece and may add copper to perpetuate the myth. How they get away with calling their jewellery 'Welsh Gold' is beyond me.

The Dobunni tribe is thought to have mined there gold from the welsh hills, the little coin in the photo shows the lovely rose gold colour, the other coin is to compare Wink

When you see the mintmark plume, or a plume on coins that means the coin is struck from Welsh mined silver  Wink

If you register your find through pas, ie Mark Lodwick, you will have the correct identification, even though it is dated 1904 !

Lovely find. Grin
