Have got a couple of nice examples of these and was wondering how many others had found them and if anyone has ever unrolled one? I haven't tried as yet. These things fascinate me, I know the Romans used them a lot, but they were still in use much later, which I suppose is why it's so difficult to date them. The only way to tell would be to unroll one and see what if anything was written on the inside.

That's the problem, some are just scrap lead. The proof of the pudding is in the unrolling Wink I've also found loads but as yet all have been just scrap Cry

Maybe they're blank because few people could read and write, and simply the act of rolling the lead and marking it represented the curse???
