The brooch looks more like a button and a very nice one too. And yes, that certainly looks like the Grim Reaper and have you noticed his sands of time thingy at the right hand side. It seems to be a livery button but it's a very unusual design. Creepy.

Thanks val I'm certain it's a disc brooch and yes the reaper 1 had me looking afew times when I unearthed it. Does look more like a seal as the back looks like what's left off 1 or fob.  Wink

How big is the Grim Reaper.  On closer inspection it looks like it might have been in a seal. The design would make more sense I it was.  Maybe the Hangman  Shocked

Ha   there you go then.  Great minds think alike.  Wonder who it belonged to. Had a funny sense of humour.  Maybe the local Doc  Roll Eyes

Just proves it's the angle of the dangle that counts.  Perfectly clear now George. A very nice round brooch and the top off a seal.
Two very nice and unusual finds.

Is that the grim reeper, or is it father time? Perhaps they are one and the same? Maybe it depends on one's point of view when he comes a knocking!  Wink

Seems The Grim Reaper and Father Time are one and the same from what I've read. I also found the attached. Not identical but similar and interesting. Shame the document seems to be written in Latin. But I wondered if it was a will or maybe a death sentence.   Don't you just love a find like this.  Scroll down the page a bit, past the adverts.

That shows it up nicely George great to see one 99% complete Wink Your "Scrap bucket brooch" Grin is certainly a 1st century Aucissa brooch and going by the thickness of the metal I would say it's likely to be a Hod hill type but without the bottom part I can't be sure Undecided
