Yesterday saw me back on the field (previous post) and if I thought I had found a cracking crossbow brooch before, it is nothing in my opinion to this little beauty I love these, it is La T'ene 1, 4th-3rd centuries BC. with pin intact and is almost 6 cm long. Also had the other bits. Tomorrow I will post todays finds which I m afraid include silver Roman and more than one at that, with a very early one Lips sealed....sorry in advance I must have stepped in something I know Wink

Wow, thanks for that Geoff that is a surprise Wink I had a La Tene 2 a year or so back from this field smaller but nice condition, that to had the pin intact and still connected to the catch plate, makes you wonder how they came adrift??

The interesting thing with these brooches is that although listed as La Tene I here in Britain when found on the continent the exact category becomes a little more vague as they're virtually indistinguishable from the Hallstatt brooches of the later Bronze Age so who knows Undecided

That is an absolutely fantastic find Paul.  The soil over there must be really kind.  What is it made of ?

Chalky soil over there (if there's flints) - so alkaline - no chance for bronze disease then.
