I always say it helps being in the right Job, over the years detecting has always played a major part in what I do work wise. I originally qualified in Human Physiology back in the late 70’s, but turned my back on that after a few years, and went back to university to study land management. This basically led me into detecting, because I had so much land at my disposal. I have bounced between loads of jobs since the 70’s. I’ve worked for the M.O.D as a Tree and grounds consultant,  managing all the M.O.D camps in the South West, along with Salisbury Plain. Went on to lecture in agronomy and  Land use  at Hartpury agricultural college, so I  got to meet lots of farmers. Worked on 4 large estates and  a Castle as estate manager with access to  thousands of acre’s of land. Now that was a good move, found my hoard on one of them.

Now self employed , do landscape design and  environmental work for various landowners and even cram in a little detecting on the job. Grin

Can be a little bleak in the winter, and seen a few accidents over the years with some of my staff, often a lack of concentration with equipment. Here a good one, don’t put your foot on the clutch whilst working on a steep slope, in fact don‘t go on a steep slope in the first place. The injuries were pretty horrific, he scalped himself on a tree stump . Although made a full recovery, after being carried out by the air ambulance.
