Scrap

                    Having seen an advert on here for Fallon Brothers scrap merchants in Widnes, I decided to garner in all my none ferrous scrap that I have recovered over the last twelve months or so. Having boxed up all my .303 projectiles, copper shrapnel, lead, and what ever I could lay my hands on in the shed; I loaded up the car and made for Fallon's scrap yard in Widnes, and what a nice  well organised place it was.

                    Booked in at the office and was entered into their computer system and the nice lady then directed me to the none ferrous scrap shed. Two great guys weighed in all my scrap and we chatted for a little while about metal detecting. One of the guys said that he had tried metal detecting but it did his head in; the metal detector kept telling him lies! 

                    With the car unloaded and all my scrap identified, I then returned to the office where the lovely lady gave me a cheque for £84.52p.
Well, I can tell you, it felt a lot like Christmas!

                    I would certainly recommend Fallon Brothers to any one who wishes to weigh in their scrap.

                   Very little of it came of the farm; 95% of it came off Talacre beach!

                    I always buy my farmer a six pack of Old Specked Hen bottles at Christmas. I would buy him something a little more expensive but he wouldn't hear of it.

                   Gee, e, I didn't think of it like that! I almost bought a new ProPointer recently but managed to get my faulty one fixed by Tony Perez of the isle of white. Cost me £25.00; a lot cheaper than buying a new one!    Price also covered postage and packaging.

I been collecting lead scrap since Geoff mentioned the Christmas weight in for the farmers, its surprising how quick it mounts up, iv over filled as roses tin already.

                       A five litre plastic screen wash container will hold about 19kg of WWII .303 projectiles. If one waits for the tides to move the sands, you don't even need the detector, you can just pick them up by the hundreds eyes only! The little blighter do get in the way though, when you are trying to make better finds.

hi chris what was the price for lead ?

Hi Jason,
                my waste transfer document from Fallon Bothers states a unit price for lead as being £960.00p and he paid me £40.32p for the lead I weighed in.

                Their unit price for heavy copper was £3,200.00p and for mixed brass it was £2,200.00p

                 I don't know how those prices compare with other yards, but I found the whole experience of attending their scrap yard to be a pleasant one, and I was happy with the cheque that they gave me.

Well done Chris. That was worth the effort.  I've been saving mine as well but don't have anywhere near enough yet. Except for a huge piece of lead I dug up in the garden. It looks like a horse tether with an iron loop in the top. That might be worth a fiver.

                     Every little counts Val and it soon builds up over the year. Although I do find pieces of lead on the farms; most of my stuff comes of Talacre sands. There are days when the WWII projectiles drive me crazy, but now and then I get a great day when a little bit of gold pops up to repay my patience.

Well done Chris nice bit of loot. I got out yesterday PM for a couple of hours before the grass gets to long and the cattle are out again, didnt find much but idid get a massive signal, when i dug it i thought it was a big rock with something underneath it on pulling it out it was a big piece of old white lead,Weighed it at home 5lb, get some musket balls out of that.
