Title: A few of my favorite coins Post by: avalon on April 21, 2012, 07:03:24 PM Here are a few of my favorite coins i've managed to winkle out of the soils of Gloucestershire over the years. These were all found using a DFX and T2 on a few very productive sites.

Title: Re: A few of my favorite coins Post by: Val Beechey on April 21, 2012, 07:27:46 PM Was going to say I knew you'd been detecting for a long time. Hubby says time for me yet !!!! Can't see me tottering aroung a field when I'm 97 :o ;D
Lovelly collection of coins. Nice to have something to show for all those years. (and a nice little nest egg when you hang you boots up) ;) Val Title: Re: A few of my favorite coins Post by: avalon on April 21, 2012, 07:28:18 PM And a few more, you can see i'm bored tonight, nothing on T.V.

Title: Re: A few of my favorite coins Post by: Nick on April 21, 2012, 08:19:19 PM Yes, it's OK finding all these coins but you can't use them in supermarket trolleys, slot machines etc.
£1 coins are the ones you should be looking for. They will even take them at the bank, as long as you hide them in coin bags with other £1 coins. Only joking Steve. Gobsmacked is the word :) :) That aureus is absolutely sensational :) :) :) :) :) Title: Re: A few of my favorite coins Post by: colin on April 21, 2012, 08:23:05 PM moving to gloucester lol fantastic stuff ;)
Title: Re: A few of my favorite coins Post by: avalon on April 21, 2012, 09:14:27 PM There is an awful lot more, but I don’t want to bore you. I‘ve detected on over 120 farms in the county which would be close to 60,000 acres. So I kind of know where to go, to find a particular period of history. The only thing that eludes me are posey rings, just can’t find them. :(

Probably because it’s worth about 40k and too many fakes have now come in from Eastern Europe, so I sit and wait patiently until another one appears. If you find a coin, make sure it's not too rare. Title: Re: A few of my favorite coins Post by: Nick on April 21, 2012, 10:34:04 PM If you cut a piece off the edge it should fit nicely in a supermarket trolley, no problem.
Seriously though, how frustrating is that. You are sitting on a serious amount of money which you can't bank :( Hopefully an identical die turns up for you, the sooner the better. Title: Re: A few of my favorite coins Post by: avalon on April 22, 2012, 06:30:08 AM The other problem I have with rare coins is they either get sold or live in a bank vault, as I cannot afford the insurance premium. So not much point in having a collection you can’t see or handle.

Title: Re: A few of my favorite coins Post by: jayhay69 on April 22, 2012, 12:40:33 PM Avalon why not have a detectingwales dig on one of your (120) 60,000 acres farms in the summer over a weekend limited to 150 people £10/£15 a day, free camping in a field just a thought :) :) :)
Title: Re: A few of my favorite coins Post by: Chef Geoff on April 22, 2012, 12:51:38 PM I'll have to start swapping you gold posey rings for gold coins lol I've had three in the last two years.

I would also find it difficult to get so many people on one dig. The other problem would be to set a president of payment for detecting land, and then find out any future detecting in the area requires a cash payment. I think that has probably happened in Wiltshire. I have also had problems with people going back to my productive sites at night, so much so, I have now had to purchased several wildlife camera’s which captures anyone who passes the infrared red beam sensor, and I certainly have some interesting shots. :) quite sad when that happens, but there will always be those who want what others have.
