Hi Zeus. The Newbury item could be connected to the racecourse. The number 608 could be the membership number, and the badge could be to gain entry to a certain part of the course. They do similiar things today as my partner found an enamelled badge for Salisbury racecourse. It may be worth contacting Newbury racecourse. Cheers Alan.

Had a great day thanks and a nice report as usual Neil Smiley

Just to add to the hammered total, Steve King had a nice London mint Edward I penny at the end of the day as well.

It is definitely a Newbury Racecourse Private Members Badge. I don't know how to do links but you will see it if you google www.greyhoundderby.com/pNEWBURY.htm       Once you have gone into the link you will see a table of dates. Just click on 1934 and you will see your find.

It may be worth contacting the racecourse to see if they can give you any info on who it was issued to. If you could trace descendants, a nice little write up in a Newbury newspaper could get you some great publicity and possibly some sites in the area. Good area for detecting.
