The detectingwales.com clans met once again today for a rally in the VoG. It was great to see numerous SCAN, RARE, Swansea, and other club members along with many new faces joining us for a day swinging the coil.

This was a bit of a short notice rally, due to the 2 Dayer being postponed thanks to the normal British Summer. Well done Rob for getting somewhere At such short notice - as always you did us proud mate.

A special nod for dedication must go to Sue Patterson aka Roman Sue who had spent several days camping in her garden to acclimatise for the 2 Dayer. Good on you Sue - I am sure you'll get to use your new tent soon! Hopefully on the reinstated 2 Dayer sometime in September.

The go here, go there was done and dusted and we were into the fields. The first find of note went to the Prince of the King Billy finders who is better known as Tom Clode as he was soon clutching a William III shilling in his paws. Tom is making a bit of a habit of these on DW rallies and long may they continue.

Next to cross my path was Apollo who with Grecian godlike ability had turned up a beauty of a 1914 half crown showing little circulation. Just behind him I bumped into Evil Bob (as Taff likes to call him) with a decorated spinal whorl to show, while in the distance I could see Spawn of Evil Bob ( his son and a great name for a book) pulling out a old plough blade. Believe it or not I love seeing these found as it tells us immediately that there have been 100's of years of ploughing in the field.

Next arrived the first Stuart period hammered coin of the day in the hands of    . Which was quickly followed by Peter Halford with another Stuart hammered in the shape of a deliberAtely cut groat. He Also had a Vicky bun head sixpence to show for the day.

Mark, who tends to be known as IFINDNOTHING was a few feet from me and pulled out a James II farthing. It may be a copper coin, but a scarce find and quite valuable on the FleaBay.

Next in line were the Rooky Pair who really need to change their usernames as they always make interesting finds with a blizzard enamelled Chinese good luck pendent. What that is doing in a field near Porthcawl is anyone's guess.

The usual array of musket balls and buckles also turned up throughout the day, but by about 2.30 my foot I was no longer in any shape to keep me upright! I headed home with a gilded military button, but happy that I had been out.

Well done on everyone who turned up today. We have loads more rallies lined up, keep tuned for more details.

Keep the faith
Neil

Charles  hammy found on the rally at Porthcawl, not in a very good condition looks like it could have been in a fire, maybe someone can shed a bit more light on it,had a look at spinks book and the shield is the same as Charles the 2nd, possibly a 2 pence, and any suggestions how to clean it up a bit, the size is approx 15mm. also had part of a spur, and a couple more coins again not in a very good condition.
Thanks for looking
Geoff

Thanks to everyone for such a great day, especially Rob for managing to arrange the location at such short notice - Well done that man!
Nice to chat to like minded people, we thoroughly enjoyed the day. We also found a fuel cap which had the makers name on - a chap from Bridgend so it was good to research his company.

See you all soon
