Bob you disc certainly has all the hallmarks of a Roman plate broach, as Rob has asked what's on the back of it?

Heather!! I'm not certain but the obverse of your half groat looks very much more like a Henry VIII posthumous issue rather than a Lizzy.

A great big well done to you all with a great array of finds again. Well done Viv on your gold well deserved to a great bloke. Have not found a hammered now for about 12 months but as yesterday proved. Stick at it and good things will come.  Well done again all.

Hi Please Peter can you let me know which Eddie my groat is. I think it,s eddie4 Also I can,t make out the mint.It reads
CIVITAS EBO then I can,t make out the next 4 letters. Thanks, Stan

Yes, it's Edward IV Stan. It's York mint (CIVITAS EBORACI). There's an E on the king's breast and quatrefoils at the neck, so it's Spink 2012.

Great coin by the way!!

Heather!! I'm not certain but the obverse of your half groat looks very much more like a Henry VIII posthumous issue rather than a Lizzy.

It's Elizabeth, mintmark A, struck 1582-84.

But which of her portraits puts the crown in that position relative to the legend? and why doesn't it say Elizabeth down the right?
