I'm sticking with my first id at the rally of a broken awl ;) Title: Re: Llantwit major last weekend Post by: jtalbot0001 on August 29, 2014, 07:10:24 PM Didn't even look at the size LOL sorry Chef. But that item is flanged though like an Axe, a very small one though? Didn''t even know it was shown at the rally, must have missed that in the report then. I thought an awl was pointed, not flanged like that?
Title: Re: Llantwit major last weekend Post by: Chef Geoff on August 29, 2014, 08:42:53 PM A true Awl would definitely be pointed but the name seems to be used quite freely in archaeology and appears to be the Swiss Army knife of the Bronze Age ;D
The records below while not identical (these were hand made one offs) they do show the flattened slightly rounded ends ;) http://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/409351 (http://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/409351) http://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/201836 (http://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/201836) http://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/64970 (http://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/64970) |
