Having eventually cleaned the muck off last weeks finds I noticed that what I initially thought was a brass buckle was stamped " MAKER GRICE RUNCORN " Huh
Any ideas?

It looks like a good week Chris, your mystery piece is the centre of a saddle makers plate Wink

Thanks Geoff. I had a quick surf on the net and the name Grice was associated with saddlers and possibly pump makers in the area. That temporary permission is still throwing up all sorts of objects, from a horse a brass to the back of a silver pocket watch! Going back on Friday and hope to put in a full day's detecting if my back can keep up with the rate that targets keep coming up.  Wink

Plenty of stuff still coming out of there..............shredded drinks cans, cut and chopped coins, brass fittings, copper scrap, loads of lead, and even the back off an old silver pocket watch! Shocked  I have had plenty of AA Shell fragments, an ATS cap badge, and an 0.45 cartridge case. It's the most productive permission that I presently have but my access is going to be limited by time and that is why I try to get at least half a day a week on site.  Wink
