Title: Explorer Se Pro user needs a better detector !!!!!!
Post by: EMU Ex Minelabuser on March 16, 2011, 02:19:08 PM
Hi all

Ok so after the last few rally's i have been finding it real hard work carting the monsterlab around even with the help of a harness i find it to tiring, and having to sweep slow is just to painful on my joints, so it is time for a change or a swap or some kind of arrangement ?.

i would like a detector that i can sweep fast as i find this more natural movement and not restrictive i am open to suggestions on what machine ( i would like a minelab ) my machine is only a few months old and had very little use i would love to keep her but i just cant i don not want to give up detecting as i love it and always have but i just need something lighter.

This is genuine  i relay want to swap my machine for something else and i would relay appreciate your help

 Darren

Thanks Nomad
Now that's a real good idea never thought of that i am guessing something like a Sovereign GT would be very light and  would be able to swing at normal speed instead of the painfully slow  pro speed Lol

Minelabuser,  I'm sure to be corrected if wrong but Minelabs in general are not a good fast sweep machine. In fact i would say that no Detector should be swept fast.

I've not seen any detectorists out there that sweep fast and walk slow. This means that unfortunately if you sweep fast you're going to be missing an awful lt of targets.

I would aim and getting a light machine but still sweep and walk slow.

taff is right...a sovereign..would do the job it can be hip or shoulder ...thus making it a lighter machine

SLOW & LOW that's the way to detect  ;)

If lightweight is your aim then it's hard to beat the XP Deus.

If price is a limiter then the Minelab 705 is good but which coil to use?

If I wasn't a Deus nut I'd probably go for the Tecknetics Omega 8000 with T2 coil. My mate uses it and is pulling all sorts up. Light, easy to use and does the business!  It's impressed me.

It's not that different to what you've got.   It's certainly not lighter!

If you want to stick with Minelab and single frequency, the Advantage is very good but no screen.

Have a look at the Omega 8000 with T2 coil. Trust me!

As a thought, Give Kevin a ring at  www.staffsmetaldetectors.co.uk (http://www.staffsmetaldetectors.co.uk)

He buys and sells and part exchanges machines. A lovely chap who will sort you out. Sells machines
with his own warranty as well.

He lists machines, coils, etc on E Bay under user name 'sliverh', I think, from memory.

i do agree that slower is better (so the wife says  ;) ) but all the videos i have been watching including the Irish bloke from minelab sweeps a lot quicker when he is using the Sovereign GT i dont want to go at it like a raging bull but a comfortable pace that is not straining my joints.

Xp are very quick, they are also more sensitive . RJM has had both, he's the boy to speak to.

Well as some have said the Sovereigns are no faster in fact no multi frequency machine will go fast and be accurate, so If you want speed then you are looking at the single frequency market.
You are not going to get the accuracy of information with these as they are not designed to receive it, but why does anyone need it? it's a good signal ....dig it up...simple. my choices here are in no order of preference or ability and my advice would be to attend a rally and see if you can get a feel for them before choosing, if you are prepared to put up with the extra lead necessary for a hip mount then the XP GoldMax Power is a good choice, but it will take you a little time to get used to, the Fisher F75 has very good results as does it's stable mate the Tecknetics T2, yes the Xterra 705 or 505 are favourites of mine  and you have the option of being able to change frequency with a coil change but like the SE they will null if you use any form of disc. The Laser Hawkeye is light and accurate as is the Laser Trident 2  both super fast machines and good around iron.
As Bob has said another Tecknetics model that has good reviews but is for some reason not that popular in the UK is the Omega 8000 or the new G2.
I know I have probably confused the issue more than clarified it but I would honestly get a feel first for the detector your interested in or give Laura at Detecnicks a phone call, she will give you very good and unbiased advice. The SE may be heavy and slow but don't be in to much of a rush to swap it or you may regret it.
I wouldn't take much notice of what people are finding with their machines as that is down more to the site than the machine.

Geoff has more or less hit the nail on the head.

If you can afford it the Deus is tremendously fast, light, sensitive, versatile and easy to live with.

The other machines he mentions are good, I've had a few of them.

If I only had about £500 I'd be looking at the Omega 8000 with T2 DD coil as it's light and fast and I've been really impressed with what I've seen it do.

Here's a review:  http://detectorstuff.com/2009/06/22/teknetics-omega-review-and-11-dd-coil/ (http://detectorstuff.com/2009/06/22/teknetics-omega-review-and-11-dd-coil/)

As Geoff said, with a multi-frequency machine you HAVE to go slow and at the moment they are heavier than single frequency ones. With a single frequency you can move a little faster and save on weight.

You have to decide what you want and do some research, because the machine you have is very capable.

I Totally agree with you i do have a great machine but it is simply the weight and doing 4 second sweeps my body just cant take it.

I have FIbromyalgia  in basic terms my muscles are in constant tension and i am in great pain 24 hours a day so by using a heavy machine my muscles are being worked and in turn this leads to more pain so this is the reason the i need something much lighter i cant give up detecting as this is the only way i can get out and do some exercise.
i am not concerned with having a lesser machine i just want to enjoy my days out !

You won't have any weight issues with the T2 Darren. They are very light. The only issue I had with my T2 was the build quality was not the best. They are a very good detector to use though and very easy too.

The Omega 8000 with T2 coil is based on the T2 but a lot less in price, easier operation and a superb easy to read display.

It's well balanced and you will notice it is a lot easier to swing than a Minelab.
