Hi,
my Garret pro-pointer was playing up by going off all over the place, it would beep when not anywhere near matel.
So I looked on Youtube and found that the wires that come off the coil to the circuit board can come loose or rub on the circuits
and give a false reading,I desided to have a go at repairing it myself, taking the circuit board out of the body was a nerve racking experiance. You have to be very careful removing the board as the on/off switch will catch on the body and brake, wish I knew that before I started, anyway out came the board minus the switch, that did come out after I tipped the body over and shock the remains of it out.
Having removed the board I Could see that the laquer coating on the wires from the coil had worn off and that the now bare wires were touching the circuits causing the probe to false.
One trip to Screwfix to buy a soldering iron later and I was attacking the inards with my new soldering iron, I unsoldered the three coil wires and put some heat shrink tube over them then resolderd them back to the board.
Ho yes the switch I bought one from E-bay for £4 plus £1 postage.
Getting the old switch off the circuit board was not an easy task,I had to try to melt the soldered in pins and pull on the remains of the switch with a pair of pliars not at all a easy task with only one pair of hands, but I did it.
I must say that attaching the new switch was a lot less stressfull then trying to remove the old one and in just a few mins the new switch was fixed and the probe put back together, time to replace the batteries and test it
it worked
Alls well that ends well.
