Thanks for your efforts Nobby but they really are not anything like Horn protectors, they're too small. Think I'll recognise a crotal bell if I find one though, poor Geoff they do pull your leg.

 I will go with the doc on this one,  yes lead weights like these were used on rabbit netting to hold them down,  perhaps too small  for home made loom weights maybe,
 here's a couple of my horn protectors that iv'e just done,  they used to fix them on to prevent the public from being gored in the public events and shows,
 you'll see the one on the right still has some rotted horn in it

Well I'm happy to go with Peters idea as well. It's as good an idea as any and I know there is an old tradition of 'Rabbiting' around here. Still goes on I'm sure. Well trained terriers and no guns.
Been an interesting discussion. I'll see if I can find something else out od the ordinary.
