Nice one Adie , they have been around since the Roman period (have a look at the gallery) , most recently (they are belt buckles) I can remember them being on elasticated belts that were tri colour.

Adie i have one almost identical, it was my very first ever find at a rally in Chievely years ago. a mate told me to take it to show the FLO. i thought he was taking the  p*ss so just left it in my pocket (i was thinking of the elasticated belt version). turns out this type of belt buckle has been around for thousands of years, though the roman and indeed saxon types are very distinctive (which i dont believe yours or indeed my is) .still a very ince find all the same.
has your "snake" got lateral lines on its under belly?
kev

I had one like that when I was a cub in the 1930,s Adie. It is a snake type belt buckle.
