it says on 1  SIDE 'YE 8 MEN AND FFEEFFES OF MORTON 1670
SIDE 2    ' FOR YE BENEFIT OF YE POOR 1/2 ' a church outline design

never found this is willimasons as i dont have the full set just the london part

not sure where Morton is or what a ffeeffee is .
i always thought they were token redeemers but not sure ...

If you google ffeeffes you will see a link to a Samuel Pepys diary excerpt. When you go into the link beneath the excerpt there are 25 annotations. Below is the bottom paragraph from one of them. Notice the bottom line.Can't find anything else but this use of the word and the last line ties in with the token.

Sam's Pa, he be one of the lucky ones, thanks to a brother [never rely on relatives for life income see poor old Eliza's Mama and Papa], other wise it be the doss house.
And it has not changed in spite of the publicity of how well off people be.
Then the Ffeeffes look after the less fortunate and still do.

i think it must be in Lincoln area as that the only Morton i can find ,but a very tiny hamlet to have such a token,unless its moreton ..

Its Moreton Hampstead in Devon. The token is devon number 208 in Dickinson's 17th century tokens.

i found it in an old Seabys token book from 1970 and listed at 2-50 . add appreciation for 44 years to the price

interesting that the ampersand figure appears then in 1670 and a search shows its used from the 1st century roman period ,et = latin for 'and'
