Looks like an old greenlane . Look on the OS map, probably goes to some farm or shortcut. Worth a try, people must have used it or drove animals to market.

Got several around our way, found some vicky and George coppers.......poor farmers ;) ;)

Where does it start Digga and can you see an end to it. As Phil says look at the first edition OS maps on www.old-maps.co.uk (http://www.old-maps.co.uk) and any other maps ( tithes, estate, road ) and try to look at the bigger picture and see if there are any missing pieces and if it once continued for a good length. It could have been access to common land during the parlimentary enclosures of the early 1800,s. Looks not quite wide enough for droving but due to the topography it maybe a local access issue. Are there any farms or buildings that front on to the lane that are dateable. From your pic mate my best guess would be local access but would like to see a bit of a bigger picture of the area. If you would like to PM me Digga and keep the location quiet I will happily research the lane for you.
