Title: Roman Brooch?
Post by: hotmill on August 13, 2013, 08:35:34 AM
Hello folks, found this last night on a freshly ploughed field, around  5 inches depth with the Deus in Basic 1 programme.  Think its Roman hinge type but not sure. Cant seem to find anything similar and I'm working away from home so don't have my Hattat book with me.

Thanks

A t-brooch can be a Polden hills can be a dolphin lol, It's not a Poldon hills because as you say it has a hinge and not an enclosed spring which would make it a Polden hills.
You need a bit more light in the photographs to give more detail of the ornamentation but from what I can see my money would be on a Wilsford type (Hattatt 391) ;)

Thanks Chef, yes apologies for the light, will try to get some better ones done. The ornamentation is very similar to the segments on a lobster (if that makes any sense)
