Weather and tides

This is something i've learnt over the years through bait digging and fishing . The high and low pressure systems which come and go over the Uk have a big effect on our tides .With the average pressure over the uk is 1014 mbs , anything over or below this does alter the hieght of low water ( high water as well but to most of us low water is more important ) The way to work out what hieght low water is ,for every millibar over or below 1014mb is equal to 1cm ,so if LW is say 1.4 mts and the air pressure is 1029mbs ,that equates to 1.25 mts and say air pressure is 994mb that would make the tide 1.6 mts .It may not sound like much to worry about but high pressure does go over 1040mb in the uk and on our flat beaches in the north west that could be 100yds further out or in  than you would expect .

Very interesting. I do watch the weather and the barometer but didn't know it made that much difference. I'm sure the beach boys (no pun)
will be brushing up on their weather watching now.

just get out there whenever u can.i find goodies at all tide lines and times
