 i did have a look around and they do look to be generally pretty poor quality ,  do you know what the other one is ? and the cut half i also posted ?

I thjink the second one is Henry II again, but from the voided short cross coinage. The mint is London and the moneyer appears to be Raul. The reverse I think reads RAVL ON LVNDE.

Looking how the letters are spaced id say the same Raul, you can just make out the bottom of ON

Peter what's your thoughts on the Tealby? I cant work it out, it don't seem to match any in my books..... ???

Hi dale is it not spink 1337 ?

Im trying to work out the mint and moneyer, iv seen Thetford spelt with a O on the end if the id was right? Thetford also had a moneyer with the letter S (Siwate) so its possible but im not sure.
This type of coin may need a up to date book, mine are a little old.

that number i gave was spink 2013 so fairly recent

If you look back a page you will see why the mint is important, some of the mints are worth 50% more, then you get your rare moneyers what would be worth more again to the right collector.
Spink has been very basic and priced the most common type, look at the prices on page 155 :)

what does "tealby" mean dale ? and also what is the moneyer ?

I must admit to generally not even trying with the Tealby coinage Dale, so well done!

However, SIWATE: ON : TEFFO (Thetford) does appear to be the most likely as you said.

Tealby is a place in Lincolnshire where a hoard of 6000 coins was found, they are named after the hoard.
A moneyer is the name of the person who minted the coins at the mint.

If you look at your coin again you will see a jewelled collar Spink 1337 does not have that, take a look at 1340 its more like your example, its looks a little different as yours is struck higher up the die ;)

We don't see many on DW so I thought id give it a go.
I know what you mean though, they can be a pain to id, I just look out for BRIS (Bristol mint) usually ;)

David you don't get tealbys pop up often, so you got a good site there, if you can get back a few more years, your in to some rare valuable coins, good luck on your next trip ;)

 i managed another cut half today and plan to be in that area over the w end, i can only get to a small area at the moment  im waiting for 2 farms to cut the barley then at that point i will have a lot more land to go at

That's good ;) You might find your on a hot spot for the early cut coins and off that area its pretty quiet, I have a field the same but nothing earlier than a short cross yet :D
