Cracking write up Neil, well done you guys for another enjoyable and productive rally, some lovely finds shown and as usual great company and chat. I had to chuckle seeing bacon being cooked in the back of a Jag boot Shocked guess that's what makes us detectorists such an interesting breed... Keep it up guys Wink

A great day out, truely enjoyable with great company, thanks for sorting guys Smiley looking forward to the return to this one Smiley

Any chance of someone giving me any IDs on my finds ?  Mine are the romans with the CM scale shown...  (I can PM higher res if needed.)

Chef did say that it was unusual to get that type of brooch in Somerset Probono, I think he said he's only seen the two, so I was a happy bunny Smiley  Hope your find was a bit more complete...

Thanks in advance,

- Andy

Great report Neil and another fantastic rally, no finds for me and due to an emergency at home I nearly didn't make it, but again the friendliness and the great banter  from everyone who attended really lifted  my spirit. This Detecting Wales forum is very quickly turning into an extended family albeit the Adams family, ( you can make up your own minds which one is Uncle Fester ). For those of you who have never been on a DW Rally
You don't know what you're missing. My thanks also to Andy Da Monkey for taking me under his wing and giving me some great advice on using my detector, and no he didn't say "why don't you retire ". Next time we're at this farm I reckon Geoff , Neil and myself should have an eight hour start before anybody else is allowed to detect  Grin  Grin

Mine was complete with pin (only brooch I've had with a pin) - there was a tread on here last year some time (if I can find it!)

I'll have a look at your other romans shortly Smiley

There are several 'Antoninus' - yours is 'Elagabalus', (if I am remembering correctly) - and has a reverse that doesn't go with the obverse, so it's a hybrid - i.e something knocked up by one of the locals...

Wayno I can't remember the coin showing any sign of being debased silver so I wouldn't wholly go along with " something knocked up by one of the locals..." but this is basically yours or a version of it Wink http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/sear5/s7529.html
