A medieval brooch discovered last year during a metal detecting rally in Hurleston is coming home.

Known as the Hurleston Brooch, the solid gold brooch – which is about 30mm across – is highly decorative and a fine example of its type.

It would have belonged to a wealthy person, symbolising their wealth and status.

The brooch is being acquired by Nantwich Museum, where it will add to the existing displays, helping to illustrate the role that jewellery has played through the ages.

Spokesman Graham Dodd said: “Having been declared treasure, it was offered to Nantwich as the nearest accredited museum to the ‘find site’.

“Grants totalling £3,000 have been awarded but the museum must provide a further £500 from its own funds and local sources – including donations.”

To help the museum buy the brooch, send cash or a cheque (payable to Nantwich Museum Trust Ltd) to the museum in Pillory Street, Nantwich, CW5 5BQ. Remember to include a note indicating the donation is for the Hurleston Brooch Fund.

A beautiful find.

Quite a few people I know have been present when important finds have been made.
It's all down to luck.............just like the lottery!
