Hi guys,
I'd like to introduce myself to the forum, My real name is Alan and I live in Caerphilly,
51 yrs of age and looking to rekindle a passion that I used to have many years ago,
I have not done any detecting for at least 25 years.
When I first started, I was not able to drive at the time + employment was somewhat difficult to come by, so was restricted to covering local areas within walking distance, so the passion did not last very long, + back then there were hardly any regulations to go by, ie; permission etc, with the exception of private land.
I find I have a bit more time on my hands these days so I am looking for a suitable machine to get started with. Also to find out what regulations or legal requirements may be needed before I start stepping on toes.
I also have an handicap so some locations may prove to be an obstacle.
I am also still fully employed so also limitations also arise between monday to friday.
Any help or assistance would be gratefully appreciated from any of the members of this forum.

Welcome the Detecting wales forum !

Alan every bit of land belongs to someone so its best to get the permission off the land owner to Detect.
As it stands you dont need a licence to Detect But some coastal areas and beach,s are owned by the Crown estate and you need a permit for these places it used to cost £15 i Think per beach but its now free (google Crown estate for more details)

My biggest piece of advice would be joins a Friendly Detecting club.

The benefits included ... The chance to use club land, My club Rare as full use of the Penllyn Estate Cowbridge.
subsidised Bus travel to loads of rallys over the water or even a free bus like this weekend to a charity rally.
Youll be about to attend local club rallys
The chance to meet new Detecting buddys.

Alan i forgot to mention

Detecting wales run regular rallys
 all you have to do to attend, is post on the forum and sign up when a rally is adverised  and pay your money (£5) 
unfortunatly the next rally in Caerleon is fully booked.70 forum members have signed up and ready to go Next saturday

alan welcome to the forum. you'll get plenty of friendly advice on here. i suspect you'll see a drastic improvement on the machines that were about 25years ago in performance....as well as price (unfortunately) .have a good nose around the site any queries/questions post them up. and perhaps we'll meet up at arally in the future.

H i there (alan) a warm welcome my advice to you on machines is minelab are one of the best out there but they are very heavy after a while and with a handicap may be a bit much there are a lot of buttys out there using fishers 75 wat they say its a very good bit of gear and well balaced so mate thats my bit of advice to you hope it helps best wishes (phil)
