Title: Brooch I.D please Doc
Post by: BottyBurp (Kris) on May 22, 2009, 07:54:36 AM
I found this Roman Brooch & wonder whether it's a Bird or a Fly!

Your thoughts please Doc?

Regards

Burp

Botty I would say its a bird fella , similar design below , where I would say that the bird in the picture below would signify a dove, the bird in yours with the hooked 'hawk like' beak would signify a Bird of prey'   possibly a military or Hunters brooch ?

Thanks for the I.D Rob, do you reckon the head is broken?

It doesn't look it to me but as you say possibly a hooked beak!

Cheers mate  :)

Yes I know it's got a fan tail, but lets call it a fly broach as I want to see Pete detect the next rally in drag.

Don't give them ideas about rallies in drag Geoff, it is definitely a fantailed birdfly or flybird!

Been invited to give an opinion on this brooch :-\ :o

I don't think it is a fly brooch, but to be awkward, can we see a side view and a pic of the back?

i still think its a fly brooch, the two bits with orange enamel in it would be the eyes and then it fans out to the wings
