Not one of our greatest days unfortunately. The field that was nice rotted stubble on Wednesday was rough ploughed by today, and the grass field that was supposed to be available was being used for motocross. The farmer offered us another reserve field down the road, but that was rough ploughed as well, and he also allowed us in another couple of pasture fields after lunch, but the grass was very long.

And with the fields just yards from a medieval church, we were all hoping for some nice finds, but pickings were very slim. Unless anyone did well on the second ploughed field, the best find of the day by far was Mike's lead seal matrix.

This 13th century seal matrix would interest my friend Dr.Rev. David Williams. Anyone who may have found one, especially in Wales should contact him for idendification. It would have been a personal seal made by a passing itinerent on request of the owner.

Usually these are discarded after th death of the owner so that nobody can use it.
Mine wn to the National Museum and as folded and thrown on to the ground.

By the way, this is old enough to be reported to the right area ie; your Liaision Officer. this will then be recorded and passed on to the P.A.S.

Hope you don't mind me saying that, Peter?  Grin

I have added it to Your Story on my web page if that is OK. If you want me to take it off just say so, no offence will be taken

Here is dr. williams email address.

I didn't catch maxine before she went - was reportedly a grot, but maxine's grots are probably as good as our best finds Wink
