Title: Gwent MDC helps police in the 70's
Post by: Richy on July 11, 2009, 07:40:32 PM
In the late 70's the police asked members of Gwent Metal Detecting Club to help them try and find a .22 airgun pellet.

A young lad in the pontllanfraith area had been shot in the face, the pellet had hit him on the cheek and had drawn blood but was not in the wound.

The police knew the exact location where the boy had been shot and so myself and several club members went to the area but despite searching for a few hours we couldn't find the pellet.

On reflection I suppose it would have been wise to find another pellet and see if our detectors got a signal from it. :)

I don't know if the culprit was ever caught but the club had a good write-up and photos in the South Wales Argus.
