Title: Tortoise Shell Locket Post by: jaydogg on March 30, 2011, 04:33:23 PM I found this recently. Not exactly a metal find; It’s a tortoise shell locket, probably Victorian. Rather touchingly, it still had a strand of hair inside the glass compartment.
It’s interesting to note that if the glass was not mounted in a copper surround, this would never have been found due to the locket being constructed of an organic material. I’m rather pleased with it. :) Title: Re: Tortoise Shell Locket Post by: jaydogg on March 30, 2011, 04:34:22 PM Other
Title: Re: Tortoise Shell Locket Post by: Chef Geoff on March 30, 2011, 04:42:54 PM Lovely find jaydogg and probably has a sad tail attached as I think it is a mourning locket and the motif could possibly mean the loved one was lost at sea.
Oh and by the way very collectable (hope you kept the hair) ;D Title: Re: Tortoise Shell Locket Post by: tyna on March 30, 2011, 04:52:56 PM Whoever lost it must have been devastated :'(
