Hi Neil.I only visited Looe last year for the first time as my eldest was playing a cup match there.
It's really nice,so nice in fact, that the missus spent ages checking out the local estate agent windows...
We sat on the town beach for a while. As I sat there I thought it must be full of stuff as it gets very busy in the middle of the season.
Looking on Google, you can see there is a bit of a beach opposite St Georges island. Timeteam found Roman there[on the island],which is rare for Cornwall,it was popular with pilgrims I believe. They also found evidence of a chapel on the mainland opposite.
I doubt you'll be lucky enough to find any of that, but as I say, there must be plenty of bling under the town beach
We've had some good gales earlier this week,so you never know,it might have moved the sand about a bit. Looe is a fair way away from me,so I don't really know about the surrounding beaches mate, but if you come through Hayle(about an hour and a quarter further down)you will be welcome to pop in for a cup of tea or a pint if you prefer.
Good luck mate and enjoy yourselves
