Some of you may remember I found a small purse hoard back last year and posted on D/W, well after what seems an age I have had a pre-valuation from the B.M of £350, this is prior to the committee meeting on the 17/12/2014. To be honest I thought it mite be worth twice this amount and would be interested in any advice or comments on the provisional amount offered. I have included the photos I took for those of you in the know on latest coin valuations and a description of said coins.

 1x Silver Groat of Mary1 (1553-54) Ref North 1960
Good condition, with only slight wear and tarnishing. weighs 2.08 g

1x Silver Groat of Mary1 (1553-54) Ref North 1960
Good condition with only a slight wear and tarnishing. weighs 1.86 g

1x Silver Sixpence of Elizabeth 1 (1561) Ref North 1997
Good condition with only slight wear and tarnishing. weighs 3.08 g

1x Silver Sixpence Elizabeth 1 (1565)  Ref North 1997
In good condition with slight wear and minimum tarnishing. weighs 3.12 g

I realise I can refuse this valuation but would appreciate your comments especially as some of you are more up on valuations than my self. Wink Wink

Almost £90 per coin ... Think I'd be reasonably happy with that, to be fair the portraits are quite worn, I'm far from an expert but just my gut feeling . Very nice find tho

Well, aside from the fact that the coin in Mike's link isn't Mary Queen of Scots (which could possibly have added to the valuation) - there's several others on there that are currently £60 ish with 18 hours to go - even assuming a price of £150 for each of the Marys, the two Elizabeth are £20-£30 each really (I recently bought 10 lizzie 6ds for £200 in similar condition) - which adds up to around £350 - for once I think £350 isn't a bad TVC valuation - although I might change my mind if my little find ever gets to the BM - it's 2 years on Monday.........

To be honest barring any of those coins being rare I think the valuation seems generous, maybe adding a little for the fact they are a purse loss. Very nice find at any rate Smiley

Sounds like a reasonable value, but as you say its the pre valuation, the TVC can and probably will alter the amount they offer. My gold viking ring had a full £3000 knocked off the expert pre valuation by the TVC Huh
