I have been asked by Mickeycoin to forward to the site an E mail I had back from Mark Lodwick regarding the Llansannor Gold Coin. I'm glad I got answers for you Micky, just sorry it may not have been the reply we were all hoping for, for you mate. Never mind gold is gold ;)

Quote
Hi Rob,

The fragment of gold was returned to Steve Sell a couple of months ago. It is not a coin and probably is not an ancient artefact either. We have it recorded as a circular gold disc with punched marks on one surface of indeterminate age, probably comparatively modern. The finder should receive the object back from Steve soon.

Thanks,
Mark

What the hell is it then? Who makes indeterminate gold objects? Did it say what the gold content was - I think it going to be 20-23k personally going by the colour and feel of it.

I would love to have known what its purpose was.

Neil

This is what I said back in February:

I have searched for a match for the gold item found at the recent rally, but without success. It appears to have been punched with the circular marks, and overall I do not think it is a coin. :o

I did go on to say that it could be ancient and needed to be reported as possible Treasure, but they've said it isn't and I'd be happy with that - means the finder got it back ;D

The weight in grains is another, older measurement.

1 gram (g) = 15.4323583529 grains  ;)

A jeweller should be able to test it for you to assess what the purity is.

They are probably already there Terry!

You can run, but you can't hide in todays society! Orwell's 1984 doesn't seem that far off now - he was only 25 years out with his prediction of the omnipresent Big Brother!

Wheres V when you need him?

it is strange but the conclussion from pas is little really they think its modern why?
its look feel size weight all seem older modern stuff doesn't look like this but they are the experts .
seems like a mystery unanswered not answered?
cast your aspertions on its likely year of casting.
mines stays at bc and stater squashed under stone much later spoiling the detail.
all we want is for another to turn up on that site if we get to go there  again then let it be cast as modern !!
